Senior Consultant & Principal
Penny Hunt joined Marts & Lundy in 2013 as a senior consultant and principal, leading the firm’s Talent Development Services. She specialises in helping senior development leaders form, support, and challenge their teams toward extraordinary outcomes for their institutions.
Before she joined Marts & Lundy, Penny was Vice Chancellor for Development at the University of Illinois at Chicago. She headed a comprehensive development programme that included 17 schools and units, a central development office and a comprehensive medical centre. She led the campus’s $650 million campaign, which exceeded its goal by $26 million. During Penny’s eight years at UIC, annual new philanthropic commitments more than doubled.
Penny spent 13 years at Northwestern University, where she led Campaign Northwestern to a final total of $1.55 billion, making it one of the most successful campaigns in higher education.
Over the past 15 years she has trained more than 2,000 academics, volunteers and development officers. Her book, Development for Academic Leaders: A Practical Guide for Fundraising Success, is an invaluable resource for deans and academic administrators who want to increase philanthropic support of their programmes. She has been recognised for her accomplishments with the CASE Crystal Apple for excellence in teaching and the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) Benjamin Franklin Award for career leadership. In addition to her work with CASE and AFP, Penny presents customised workshops and seminars on campuses in the United States, Canada, the UK and Australia.
