John, president emeritus of the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE), has joined Marts & Lundy as an Of Counsel consultant. His experience with education professionals across the world offers our clients a distinct intercontinental perspective on advancing their institutions through strategic fundraising, alumni relations, communications and marketing programmes.
In March 2015, John stepped down after 11 years as CASE president, the longest presidential tenure in the organisation’s history. Under his leadership, CASE reached record levels of membership, revenues and reserves; strengthened operations in Europe and North America; established CASE Asia-Pacific and CASE America Latina; and expanded services to members worldwide in areas such as research and advocacy.
During his presidency, John was an active member of the CASE Europe Board of Trustees, a regular presenter at CASE Europe conferences, and a frequent participant in activities designed to help rectors and vice chancellors develop their advancement operations.
John first joined CASE in 1999 as vice president for communications and marketing. Prior to that, he was associate vice chancellor for advancement at the University System of Maryland, director of college relations at Ithaca College and a public affairs officer at the National Endowment for the Humanities.
John holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Wesleyan University and was awarded an honorary doctorate by Widener University.
